Second Annual Cheap Art Auction Fundraiser!

26 Jan
Artist: Julie Heffernan

"Self Portrait as Gorgeous Tumor" by artist Julie Heffernan

The Visual Arts Club at the College of Charleston presents its Second Annual Cheap Art Auction from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday, February 25th, 2012 at the Hill Gallery in the Cato Center for the Arts, College of Charleston.

Our goal this year is to raise $500 to bring our selected artist, Julie Heffernan, to the CofC campus to curate and lecture at our annual Young Contemporaries competition in March.

Members of the Visual Arts Club will combine their talents for this fundraiser through a student-only Artist Lock-In in the Independent Drawing Studio (Lightsey) on February 4th to create original work specifically for the  Second Annual Cheap Art Auction.

Artwork on auction will include paintings, drawings, original prints, photographs and sculptures by our emerging artists at affordably low prices. For art collectors in Charleston searching for upcoming talent and beautiful but inexpensive pieces this February, this is a unique chance to purchase fantastic artwork while supporting the efforts of College of Charleston’s talented young artists in the Visual Arts Club.

Students are encouraged to participate in our Lock-In or to donate work for the show if they are unable to attend.

VAC Student Gallery Show Announcement: Deconstructed

16 Sep

Featured Student Work: Sage Graham – We All Have Eyes, but Do We See?

Thanks to everyone who submitted work to our September show! This show has been curated by our lovely Gallery Coordinator, Erin Hoskins, who searched for commonalities in the works submitted and noted the number of submissions that focused on breaking down lines, subject matter and color planes. The show will be called “Deconstructed” and will hang in the VAC Student Gallery in the long corridor of the Simons Center.

If your work made it into the show, place it in the 4th floor hallway of the Cato center (the main painting studio) by Tuesday, September 20th. Framing will take around a week, and the show is tentatively scheduled for installation on Friday, September 30th.

If you’d like to see all of the work that was submitted for this show, visit our Online Gallery!

Here are the works that made the cut this month! This list is not in order of how it will be hung on the wall:
