Studio 659 in historic Whiting IN (20 minutes from Chicago) wants War art from any period of war throughout U.S. history. We are looking for art, particularly paintings, that depicts the horrors of war, the zeal and valor of its participants, the consequences of battle, or those left behind. The show opens on November 4, 2011 and runs through November 30, 2011. The show will also include WWII artifacts and authentic WWI propaganda posters. No entry fee.

Visual Overture Magazine is accepting entries from emerging artists for the “Spotlight on Science” exhibition-in-print competition. Artist must submit portfolio showing a portfolio of artworks that are the result of influence by the ideas and practices of the sciences, either contemporary or historical. One selected finalist will be featured in a one-page article showing 3-6 images of his/her work and a write-up about their innovative practice in the Winter 2011 issue of Visual Overture Magazine.

The State University of New York at Cortland announces a call to artists for a group exhibition at the Dowd Gallery, January 18 – March 2, 2012. Open to all artists nationally and internationally, to submit work for consideration that represents innovation in concept, subject or media use. All work must be the original work of the applicant, suitable for gallery installation. Full color publication produced. Exhibiting artists receive one free copy. Juried by committee of 5-9 professional artists. No entrance fee. Artists are responsible for shipping fees, and should include a prepaid return-shipping label. Deadline: November 7, 2011. Selected artists may be invited for a subsequent short term visiting artist program with undergraduate studio art students including presentation of work, discussion and studio visit. The selected artist will receive a stipend of $1000 for his/her time and travel expenses.

Embracing Our Differences is accepting submissions for its 9th annual outdoor art exhibit celebrating diversity to be displayed during April – May 2012 in Sarasota, FL USA.
